It highlights the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development and explores the dilemma of development from different perspectives. Sustainable Built Environment [5 cr]

This course covers fundamentals of basic infrastructures focusing on sustainable technologies, infrastructures and policies aiming for environmentally, culturally and economically more sustainable built environments globally. The key content covers water, energy, waste management, housing, land use, climate change, vulnerability and resilient communities. This course prepares students to the SGT studio and fieldwork. Set of 12 guest lectures & participatory workshops, Period II (Autumn).

Sustainable Global Technologies (SGT) Studio [10 cr]

WAT-E2070

The highlight of the SGT courses. SGT Studio is a co-learning studio course for Master’s and Doctoral students at the Aalto University. During the course students form multidisciplinary teams to carry out projects linked to global development challenges. Assignments are implemented with partners from academia, industries, governmental and civil society organizations and communities in developing and transition countries. Each project team will be mentored by Aalto researchers and practicing professionals. Project-based team work, Periods III-V (Spring).
